What does the S and F, on the face of a mantle clock, stand for?

anyone know?

There should be a small lever somewhere close by the S and the F. It is for minute (not minute = 60 sec., but minute = very tiny), time adjustments. S will make the clock slower and F will make it go faster. Regulate the timing by using a "Standard" for time. Good Luck…

The S and F mean slow and fast. There should be a lever that you can move from one way to another. The apparatus it controls is called a "governor". It is best not to fool around with the mechanism on a clock unless abslolutly necessary. Clocks seem to like sameness for some reason. The clock should be clean, lubricated and wound on a regular basis.
