Does anyone know where I can find a 8" X 9" reverse painted glass pane for a antique Seth Thomas Clock?

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

The clock is a vintage 1860s Seth Thomas split column clock. The door panel opening is 8" wide X 9" tall. The one source found on eBay did not work out. I would like to be able to see samples of work and be able to communicate via e-mail. Any suggestions?

John, I’ve bought replacement reverse-painted glass for several clocks at Merritt’s. I would suggest calling them to see if they have a size you want — I’ve found that’s faster than going through their webpage. I believe they sometimes harvest old glass from unrepairable clocks. Their toll-free number for clock parts and supplies is: 1-800-345-4101.

Vintage MM5314N Clock Chip LED Digital Clock

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

The National Semiconductor MM5314N Clock Chip was popular among electronic hobbyists and kit builders from the 1970′s to the 1990′s. I believe production ceased in the mid 1980′s, but these chips were easily available well into the 1990′s. Today they are very scarce.

Are vintage clocks a fire hazard?

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

I have some clocks from the 30′s, 40′s, and 50′s (they are all plug-in) that I really want to use–I don’t want to keep them in a closet somewhere! One has a very old cloth electrical cord, the others are newer vinyl-type cords. Some of the clocks are wood, some are bakelite. Are any of these clocks a serious fire hazard?

You can check the wiring your self by looking at it and bending it. If it cracks, Then it is dry & brittle and a small appliace repair shop would replace the cords for you. You don’t need to call an expensive Electrician to repair these items, They DON’T repair clocks & appliances. They do HOUSE & BUILDING WIREING. NOT small appliance repair.

Vintage Clock Necklace?

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

Im looking for a necklace that is either silver or gold. It would be on a long chain. The tricky part is, I want the pendant to be a clock! Not like a Flava Flav clock necklace, but one of those old time necklaces! Like a pocket watch only on a chain around your neck! haha is this even possible? If so, is there a proper name for it? Does anyone know where to find one?

Thanks!

Google or yahoo ‘pendant watch’.
