how do you refinish or polish an antique mantle clock?
Thursday, March 4th, 2010it is very old more than a hundered years
Do not attempt to change the finish on the clock. You will ruin the patina (natural aged finish). thus deminishing its value. The best bet is to take it to a reputable clock shop to see if they can help.

I’m trying to find out a site where I can research prices of Antique wall clocks?
Saturday, February 27th, 2010I have an antique vienna wall clock trying to find out type and value. Looks familure to gustav becker clocks. Mantle piece on top has a distinctive lians head (circle) protruding in center of wood plus it has a picture of what looks like a nun or a biblical woomen in center of primary peak (in Mantle) I estimate that it is from 1880-1900 time frame. Anyone heard of such design? or know of anyone who may, can send picture.

Will it hurt my antique mantle clock if it’s on the mantle during a fire?
Sunday, February 21st, 2010I have an antique keywound mantle clock, and it’s on the mantle, above the fireplace. Will it hurt the clock if I have a fire in the fireplace with it on the mantle?
Here’s a quick and simple test… next time you build a fire, place a candle where the clock would normally set. If the candle survives the heat intact, your clock should be ok too.
I’d just make one note of caution… the extra heat may cause the wood to dry out, over time. Cleaning the clock with Murphy’s oil soap on a regular basis will help prevent that, as well as prevent a soot build up, heheh. If you only build a fire once in awhile, it shouldn’t be a problem.

How do you get an old mantle clock to keep ticking? It is level and it did work but just quit.?
Monday, February 15th, 2010It was working fine but now will only tick for a few seconds at a time. What to do?
look on the internet for either local antique shops, or clock shops, or clock repair. You will probably have to take it in to one of these places. If it is real old it might be dirty inside and needs cleaning to make it work smoothly.
I have a grandfather clock that is 122 years old. In the past it needed a clock repair person at least 4 times that I know of.
Good luck. Oh, and don’t fool around with it yourself, you might do more harm than good.
