Does anybody know anything about a Seth Thomas Mantle clock serial or model number 5101? It is keywound 124 series chime movement. I have looked everywhere to try and find out something about this little clock and have come up with nothing. Please help!

does anyone know how to adjust the pendulum to stop the clock losing time, also the chime works intermittantley, it works on the half hour but sometimes not on the hour, but if you put the key in and turn it a bit to the right the chime works!
Any suggestions to clean black slate and make it shine?
No answer on the clock movement
Answer for bringing back slate to make it shine
take a soft lint free cloth and squeeze a small amount of baby oil on it and wipe the surface of the slate. Buff when completed. This treatment works beautifully on my natural slate fire surround and fireplace.

i bought an antique wm.l.gilbert clock that feels like someone wound it too tight.is there an easy way to take care of this problem.also the finish looks like an alligator skin.either that or it got really hot during a house fire.
Find someone who is well qualified to repair your clock. Check your Yellow Pages or ask around for someone who can repair it for you. I don’t know if a jeweler would be able to repair it or not. Call & ask one or more & see what they say. Good luck!

Clock was given to me. It is my first antique clock. It has two holes on the front for winding. I think it has to be wound every seven days. A short time after receiving the clock it stopped. I took it to a repair shop and they said the mechanics just needed cleaning. They cleaned it and it worked fine, even the chimes. Then we went on vacation for two weeks and when we returned I set the clock and winded. It did not even run for an entire day. Maybe I need instuctions on setting properly. Please help!
Did you set the pendulum in motion? It won’t run until you do that. The other possibility is that you wound it too tightly..try getting the pendulum moving on its own (it may stop a few times before it loosens up enough to work on its own). Other than that, its back to the repairman.

The clocks are the same, except the ones known as
carriage clocks featured a handle on top, and were originally used as travel clocks. These clocks often sit on mantles, a shelf that projects from a wall above a fireplace.
See source for pictures of mantle clocks with and without handles.
