the clocks is in great condition and is made out of marble, it is a mantel clock about 18 in tall and 10 in wide
their homepage says they are in business since 1837 and Golay fils &Stahl only since 1896, so I doubt that 1598 is the date, it might be a serial number?
Just a short web search gets me the impression that it may be expensive but you have to contact an appraiser or the company for a valuation.
The link has a bunch of company info interspersed with the desciption of this particular clock. And you can google the company name to get their website.
The Sternreiter “Sloan” MM80837307 chiming mantel clock plays Westminster chimes each quarter hour and strikes the hour. It has a mahogany finish bracket style case and a mechanical 8-day German movement.

I’m new to the clock world and am looking for information on the German clock maker, Thomas Haller. Does anyone know where I can find information and price indexes for the brand’s mantel clocks? Thank you!

Hi, – Metamec were never expensive clocks, and served the mass market. Trade cost prices used to be roughly £5 to £15 at most, and they sold (retail) for slightly less than twice those cost prices.
I’ve never heard that any Metamecs have become "collectible" so can’t see yours making a lot of money, – sorry.( But I could be wrong..)
My instinct would be to put a reserve of about £3…

Is there any way that I (a 15 year old who has no knowledge) modify an old mantel clock so that it doesnt chime overnight? I still want it to chime during the day. Help appreciated!
I know some of the more modern clocks have a feature where chimes can be silenced at night, but I think you’re out of luck w/an older clock (I have several older key-wound clocks). My advice is to muffle the clock somehow, so it’s not as loud at night. Or you just can get used to the chiming, that’s what I did.

Whatever you do, do not post it with E Bay, you will not get the best pricing for your piece, speaking from my experience.
Some of these mantel clocks are fetching high prices especially when they are German or European made.
Hope this helps, Good Luck.
Cheers!
