Hurricane Katrina: One Year Anniversary is today. Our clocks stopped at 7:30am as the storm surge came in…?
Thursday, March 4th, 2010This day has a deep and profound meaning for all of us who went through it but I have honestly been taken aback by many many of the reactions I’ve seen in people who were not directly affected by this storm. We have repaired our clocks, cleaned up the mess and are looking to the future on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. We feel closer as a community and try to support one another because we have A LOT of change to adjust to.
I am always surprised at the depth of compassion people show us and also at the occasional raw condemnation and hatred shown. My question–Why did this event move so many people so much, for good and for bad?
I feel like I must absolve people of their guilt sometimes when I am talking to them (people from outside).
I have lived in Florida for 45 + years. I understand what you are saying! They are surprised that we are still cleaning up from the 4 we had the year before K. Guess what I am expecting at least a STORM this evening or early in the A.M. We are ready so we should be safe maybe! I think it is a combination of things. First they are scared it could happen to them, and second It is truly overwhelming. Just to much to handle!

For each other or for another couple?
For your hubbie – Think like it was Christmas. Does he like DVD’s, Music, Dogs, racing, Mexican wrestling. Just think of what he likes. It doesn’t have to be practical, but something slightly romantic might help (Not with mine, I know what to get him…DVDs, as always.) Or maybe you could get each other the same gift – such as a night out that you usually couldn’t afford. Go to a nice resturant (for me – I simply demand that I be seated before they take my order!!!) and a show. Go see a comedy show or even just a movie or anything else you might be into.
For another couple? – Anything for the home, since they are probably still settling in to a new home. Maybe a nice framed picture of them together if you have one that they don’t have (good snapshots are sometimes the best.) Gift certificates to resturants so they can spend an evening out together. Maybe throw in some more gift certificates for the local theater so they can make it a night.

How do I go about selling anniversary clock from the 1940’s for parts. Clock has stopped working?
Sunday, February 21st, 2010Where do I advertise? These old parts would be of use because the clock isn’t manufactured anymore.
The best way I found to sell my old clocks either running or not is on eBay. It’s the easiest to do and I almost always sell my items.
Anniversary Clock by Tempora
Monday, February 15th, 2010
This is a Anniversary Clock by Tempora that works by a battery. It is clever a weight on a lever dropes down a notch every second then after about 46 seconds it is sprung back up by a electromagnet. As the weight goes down it drives the the anniversary balls back and forth. Clever I thnk
