I am thinking one of those gold dipped roses with a personalized vase, and/or tickets to the King Tut exhibit (she’s into Egypt, King Tut, all that stuff). I was going to make the King Tut thing a surprise, but I gave her one small hint and she actually guessed the exhibit, so she knows I want to take her, won’t be much of a surprise I guess.
Any other good ideas though? We’re not married, so I’m not sticking with paper or clocks.
No gold dipped rose. Maybe King Tut. If you have the means, get a silver necklace of her name in hieroglyphics or a silver ankh.

How do I fix a cuckoo clock that stops after about 5 hours of use?
Monday, March 29th, 2010I have an 8 day cuckoo clock and it has been working fine for quite some time (it was passed down to me, it is know around 40 years old). I have recently noticed that after I wind it and start it again it will stop just a few hours after I wound it. I know it didn’t pull the weights too high because there are rings stopping that. Is this anything I can fix myself?
Probably not – you most likely have a damaged or dirty weight and that is a job for a pro. Take it to a clock shop and get a quote then if possible have it fixed and get a list of maintenance tips to keep it running. Good Luck!

What cool features would you want your clock radio to have?
Monday, March 29th, 2010We are working on a senior engineering design project where we will be creating a prototype for a new clock; most likely, it will actually be produced. Clock radios are becoming obsolete, so we need to know what consumers are actually looking for…some technologically complex features that can be achieved with a reasonable budget. Some ideas we are considering include voice commands, weather/traffic alerts, and a projection of the outside sky on the ceiling.

a wireless button that you actually have to get up to turn off. For example, I get up and get my shower. That is what really wakes me up. If I could mount the button in my Bathroom, that would mean I had to get up and go into the bathroom to turn it off, and I would just get into the shower.
Also, possibly like a flat cloth or something that goes under the mattress and senses weight change. If you get up, it automatically turns off. If you lay back down within 5 minutes or so it starts ringing again
Value or Informmtion of an antique clock?
Monday, March 29th, 2010Someone has given me a Seth Thomas 8-day clock and I’m wondering it’s value. It’s a mantel clock, he said it’s in between 1920-1930. Inside the back panel it gives instructions to operate and has the following: Quarter Hour Strike Movement No. 89-L
It’s beautiful and I love the chime sounds!
My grandmother had one just like you described.
The value was around $50 – $75. Not much, but everyone in the family wanted it when settling her estate.
The real value is what YOU place on it, and since you obviously love it, a monetary figure is meaningless.
