I’m trying to find out a site where I can research prices of Antique wall clocks?

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

I have an antique vienna wall clock trying to find out type and value. Looks familure to gustav becker clocks. Mantle piece on top has a distinctive lians head (circle) protruding in center of wood plus it has a picture of what looks like a nun or a biblical woomen in center of primary peak (in Mantle) I estimate that it is from 1880-1900 time frame. Anyone heard of such design? or know of anyone who may, can send picture.

Does anyone know what "FHS" means when it comes to Antique Clocks?

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

I am trying to find out where this clock comes from and the maker . And the value of the clock as well. It is a wooden Mantel clock, the front opens to wind it with a key the back opens and has a pengaliem there is FHS cm 15 78.28 engraved inside the back. I know it has to be an antique because it came from an 83 year old unle. Can anyone help? please

FHS means it was made by Franz Hermle & Sons…..

"Nearly one hundred years ago, Franz Hermle began manufacturing and selling mechanical clocks.
In 1922, Franz Hermle founded the Franz Hermle Clock Company in Gosheim/Wuerttemberg, Germany.
Within ten years the company became known as one of the most modern and efficient manufacturers of
clock movements in the clock industry. Franz Hermle and his sons’ dedication weathered the effects of
WWII and made Franz Hermle und Sohn Uhrenfabrik prosper while other companies folded.

The founder, Franz Hermle, died in 1953 and left a modern and prosperous operation to his sons
Gebhard, Alfred, Hans and Heinrich Hermle. Now in its third generation, Franz Hermle und Sohn
employs over 500 people in 4 locations in Germany and an additional manufacturing facility,
Hermle Black Forest Clocks, in Amherst, Virginia, USA. Today, the company is a worldwide leader
in the manufacturing of clocks, and mechanical clock movements.

The trademark is the word Hermle in script or simply FHS stamped on the works."

What are some facts about the World’s Largest Cuckoo Clocks in Germany?

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

The Black Forest is beside the Bavarian Forest the largest low mountain range of Germany. It is particularly famous for its expanded forests, valleys, little cities and nature-left rivers. Almost each village is an air health resort. But not only the environment gives the Black Forest its fascination – it´s one product that made this area so famous: the Black Forest Cuckoo Clock. see link for more details…www.cuckooclockworld.com/blackforest.htm

Record
Of the largest cuckoo clocks in the world, four of them are located in the Black Forest of Germany; in Höllsteig (Breitnau), Niederwasser (Hornberg), Schonach and Schonachbach (near Triberg). Another one is located in central Germany, specifically in Gernrode (where the "World’s Largest Chocolate Cuckoo Clock" was made in 2006) and finally two of them are situated in the west of the country; in Sankt Goar where the world’s largest free-hanging cuckoo clock is located and in Wiesbaden.

In America four of them exist as well, two are placed in the United States, in Frankenmuth, Michigan and Wilmot, Ohio, the other two are in Eduardo Castex and Villa Carlos Paz, both in Argentina.

Lastly in Japan, on the island of Hokkaidō, there is another one in Onneyu. Some of them have been awarded with the title of "World’s Largest Cuckoo Clock" by the Guinness World Records.

As for the largest indoor cuckoo clocks, in 1986 the now-defunct manufacturer Dold built a custom clock for Champ’s Clock Shop in Douglasville, Georgia, a bit smaller is the one currently manufactured by the Anton Schneider company. The smallest cuckoo clock in the world is made by the firm Hubert Herr.

Perched on the Deutsche Uhrenstrasse (German Clock Route), Schonach is home to Clock Park Eble, which you can’t miss. Visitors can buy their own smaller version of the carved clock, or arrange to tour one of the nearby clock-making workshops to see the masters of the traditional craft at work.

Vintage SB Ale and Beer Southern Brewing Company Clock

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

http://www.opamerica.com Presenting a vintage electric clock featuring the SB Ale & Beer logo. SB is short for the Southern Brewing Company of Tampa, Florida. The company existed between 1937 to 1963. It was most popular in the late 1940′s to the 1950′s. I’m guessing this clock is from that period. The clock measures 15″ inches across. It is made of metal with a crystal protective face made of plastic. Some scuffs and scratches but in overall good shape! I plugged in the electrical cord and the clock ran. The clock is manufactured by G.E. General Electric.
