cuckoo clock – 8362 – woodchopper

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

8362 – 13 ” x 19 ” x 9 ”

Whimsical and sometimes realistic animations such as this one were commonly reproduced mechanically in the Black Forest since the early Nineteenth Century. Here, a man in traditional Black Forest garb chops his firewood for the long winter. Meanwhile the townspeople are above, on the balcony, dancing to the music.

This eight-day, musical cuckoo clock features a large 36-note music box with an excellent sound. This eight-day musical cuckoo clock has a night shut-off lever so you can turn off the music and cuckoo and leave the time-keeping function running.

The dial, hands, and numbers and bird are all of solid wood. The shingles on the roof are individually laid, and all the carvings are done by hand.

This “Woodchopper ” cuckoo clock is by Rombach und Haas and is exclusively available through North Coast Imports. It is an Original Black Forest Clock, certified by the VDS.

The clock comes packaged in genuine recylced or renewable materials, each clock made and packaged BY HAND by Black Forest craftsmen the same way they have been for hundreds of years. The cuckoo bird, hands, numbers, and dancers are all made of solid wood. The bird and dancers move along with the mechanically produced music and cuckoo call. The sound of the bird is produced by real wooden whistles and the music box movement is hand made in Switzerland . Does anyone know where I might find a domed anniversary clock that plays a selection of different songs?

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

I used to have one but lost "custody" of it in my divorce. It was bought at Fred Gattas back in the early 90’s. It played songs on the hour. I believe there was a selection of about 12 different ones. Do they still make them with the different song selections?

I’m not sure about anniversary clocks that play different songs. But I know of a place that sells them with the Westminster Melody with quarter hour chimes and hour count, and a Bell Strike hour count with half hour strike.

Those are the only types I know of. You’d think they would make clocks now with a jukebox like setting where you could upload any sound file to play as the hourly chime. If you find a place that has those please let me know.

check my resource for the store with the Westminster clocks.
